    Consider the probationary period  as a way for employer or applicant to determine if the ‘fit’ is good for either of them.

    From an employer perspective, a probationary period primarily reduces risk.  This is also often calculated as part of the package for budget which would include training.

    While probationary period is most often introduced by the employer, an applicant can also volunteer to undergo a probationary period.  There are many potential benefits for doing it this way when initially proposed by the applicant.
